Nursing performance in the management of patients with ischemic stroke

Introduction: stroke is considered one of the leading causes of death and disability worldwide, its assessment, diagnosis and adequate treatment is paramount to avoid neurological sequelae. Objective: To analyze nursing care in the management of patients with ischemic stroke by means of a systematic review. Methodology: A systematic review of the literature was carried out in academic search engines such as Google Scholar, PubMed, Scielo and Elsevier, on the role of nursing in the management of patients with stroke, using a total of 16 original articles. Results: It is clear that the interventions carried out by nursing staff with post-stroke patients are of vital importance, as interdisciplinary work is required as well as the application of various scales to assess the patients' condition. Emphasis is placed on the activities developed in the treatment by endovenous thrombolysis and mechanical thrombectomy, where it is essential to consider the time of evolution to make timely decisions; in the same way, they are responsible for monitoring the progress of patients and carry out rehabilitation activities with them, for their recovery. Conclusion: The management of patients who have suffered a stroke is rigorous, which is why it is necessary for the nursing professionals in charge of their care to have extensive knowledge, since nursing is especially involved in the pharmacological management and hemodynamic monitoring of the patients, and because several sequelae can be triggered after the stroke, they participate in their rehabilitation.
