Abstract

Introduction: Neurological and psychiatric damage in patients with traumatic brain injury; triggers a number of post-trauma sequelae with or without limitations, so it is required to know the most frequent damages at the neuropsychiatric level that contributes to a clear identification of the sequelae caused by cranioencephalic trauma, and thus be able to provide specialized care and timely to contribute to their rehabilitation and full social reintegration despite their limitations. Objective: To identify the relevant neurological and psychiatric damage that affects the limitation of certain functions in patients with traumatic brain injury, based on a systematic review. Materials and Methods: A systematic review was carried out, by selecting 15 academic articles published in the last five years, adjusted to the search keywords and exclusion and inclusion criteria considered for the election. The collection of information was carried out through the search in databases such as: Dialnet, Google academic, Scielo. Results: In most of the selected works, they show that most of the sequelae after a traumatic brain injury affect memory, speech, sensory-motor alteration, attention problems and information retention, however, the one that causes the greatest disability is the alteration of the function of instrumentation and execution of activities of daily living. Conclusion: In the relevant neurological and psychiatric alterations, amnesia and impaired motor function were found to cause greater difficulty in the independence of the patient with a TBI.
