Performance of labor competencies in people with disabilities in supermarket chains in the city of Portoviejo – Ecuador

The objective of this research article was to describe the performance of labor skills in people with disabilities in supermarket chains in the city of Portoviejo. The methodology was quantitative in nature, the study design was non-experimental, cross-sectional. The population was made up of 150 companies belonging to supermarket chains in the city of Portoviejo in Ecuador with workers with disabilities. The study technique was made up of an interview and the instrument was the standardized survey called Sofofa-ILO Disability Survey 2012. The SPSS version 24 program was used, the data was made through descriptive statistics in which it was presented in frequency tables. according to the levels of each variable. It was found that the channels surveyed declared that they hired 605 people with disabilities. Therefore, only 0.5% of the total number of employees hired in the supermarket chains surveyed have some type of disability. 88% of the companies, that is, more than 3/4 of the sample, have hired between 1 and 5 people with disabilities, while only 5% have hired between 6 and 10 workers with disabilities. 7% of those in supermarket chains have more than 10 workers with disabilities. Conclusion: managers (60%) consider that workers with disabilities do not have limitations in their work area; however, ease of communication and productivity were the most demanding, finding that in the case of people with disabilities they have difficulties in these two areas.
