Abstract

Background: Positive interpersonal relationships foster cooperation, communication, and job satisfaction. However, when relationships between employees take on a romantic tone, both opportunities and challenges can arise that impact organizational performance. The objective of the study is to determine the relationship between interpersonal relationships and the romantic involvement of workers in the commercial sector of the SMEs in Arequipa. Methods: In this quantitative, cross-sectional, and explanatory research, structural equation modeling (SEM) was used to identify causal correlations. 300 employees from the commercial sector of SMEs were surveyed with a Likert-type questionnaire to determine the level of correlation. Results: together with the dimensions of social interaction (0.837) and social attitudes (0.860), the results demonstrated a strong causal association between the interpersonal relationships of the workers and romantic feelings (0.931). Conclusions: it is evident that there is a significant relationship between interpersonal relationships and the infatuation of workers in the commercial sector of the SMEs in Arequipa. Therefore, interpersonal relationships and romantic feelings in the context of commercial SMEs are phenomena that must be addressed carefully, managing these bonds responsibly and in harmony with organizational objectives.
